As well as being able to marvel at Costner once again shining and wonderfully mustachioed in the Western genre, the official synopsis for Horizon: An American Saga has also now been released.

“In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, “Horizon: An American Saga” explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won—and lost—through the blood, sweat and tears of many. Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.”

Not only is Horizon: An American Saga co-written, produced, and directed by Kevin Costner, the Yellowstone actor will also lead the star-studded cast. Set to feature alongside Costner are American Sniper star Sienna Miller, Avatar: The Way of Water actor Sam Worthington, Sneaky Pete’s Giovanni Ribisi, and Stranger Things star Jamie Campbell Bower, as well as Luke Wilson, Thomas Haden Church, Jena Malone, Alejandro Edda, Tatanka Means, Michael Rooker, Isabelle Fuhrman and, if you can believe it, many more. Clearly it takes a lot of talent to tell the tale of Horizon: An American Saga.

Horizon: An American Saga is a real passion project for writer, actor, and director Kevin Costner, with the star having been working on the epic since as far back as 1988. Yes, you read that right, 1988. The actor has even put a lot of his own money into the production. According to court filings that were revealed during his recent divorce proceedings, Costner has contributed around $20 million to the budget, and plans for Horizon: An American Saga to spawn four movies. As Costner previously explained:

“I’ve mortgaged 10 acres on the water in Santa Barbara where I was going to build my last house … But I did it without a thought. It has thrown my accountant into a f**king conniption fit. But it’s my life, and I believe in the idea and the story.”

So, once again, Horizon: An American Saga will be released in two parts, with Chapter 1 set to land in theaters on June 28, 2024, with Chapter 2 now due to be released on August 16, 2024.
