At Samsung, smartphone launches never stop. It has just unveiled the Galaxy S23 FE along with a bunch of other products, as the Galaxy S24 series starts to take shape behind the scenes. The company is also simultaneously working on its 2024 Galaxy A Android lineup. We recently learned that the Galaxy A35 might bring a major camera upgrade. We now have some early details about the Galaxy A55 camera, and you might not like it.

The Galaxy A55 may not get a camera upgrade

A couple of weeks back, GalaxyClub reported that Samsung will equip the Galaxy A55 with the same 50MP camera as the Galaxy A54. Since this year’s model upgraded from a 64MP sensor (higher resolution doesn’t always mean a better camera), this was already expected. The company can still improve the image quality with software processing. However, fresh information about the phone’s rest of the camera setup is upsetting.

The same source is reporting that the Galaxy A55 will feature a 32MP camera on the front. Sensor details are missing, but it appears to be the same camera found on the previous-gen models. We are saying “models” because the Korean firm has used a 32MP selfie camera on the Galaxy A54, Galaxy A53, Galaxy A52, and Galaxy A51 as well. The lineup appears to be keeping things unchanged for the fifth year in a row.

This is disappointing, to say the least. Samsung kept the selfie camera on its Galaxy S series flagships unchanged (10MP sensor) for a few years before upgrading it to a 12MP unit on the Galaxy S23 earlier this year. We expected the company to do the same with the Galaxy A55 next year. After all, the device sits directly below the Galaxy S series in its pecking order. It’d have been nice if the new model got the Galaxy S22’s 10MP selfie camera. But not to be.

Worse yet, Samsung isn’t upgrading the ultrawide lens either. The Galaxy A55 will reportedly feature the same 12MP ultrawide camera as the previous four models in the lineup. We are currently missing details about the third rear camera, which is a 5MP macro shooter on the Galaxy A54. There’s little hope Samsung will change it. Macro cameras hardly matter, anyway. So don’t expect a camera upgrade on the Galaxy A55, at least not in terms of resolution.

The Galaxy A35 will give you an improved main camera

Samsung will launch the Galaxy A55 alongside the Galaxy A35 around March 2024. The latter is said to be upgrading to a 50MP main camera from a 48MP unit. It appears the company is equipping both models with the same primary shooter. They will get the same Exynos 1480 processor as well. The rumor mill should soon give us more information about Samsung’s 2024 Galaxy A lineup.
