An upcoming game set in the Lord of the Rings universe called Tales of the Shire promises to be unlike anything you’ve ever played from the franchise. Where games like Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War offered meaty action combat, and Lord of the Rings: Gollum was all about stealth, Tales of the Shire focuses on something else entirely.

As reported by engadget the gameplay is said to be “cozy” so don’t expect anything too stressful here. Think about games like Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, or Coffee Talk. All of these provide a very laid-back experience. And it seems this game will do the same thing. Hobbits are generally known for enjoying their cozy lifestyles inside of their hobbit holes. Which is basically their homes in the Shire.

There isn’t much detail about the gameplay yet other than the fact that it’s cozy. So perhaps you’ll be taking on the life of a hobbit. And then be able to build up and decorate your very own hobbit hole.

Tales of the Shire arrives in 2024

There’s no exact release date yet but the game is launching sometime in 2024. When it does arrive it’ll be available on both PC and consoles. So expect it to show up for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Unfortunately the teaser trailer doesn’t have any confirmation on which console platforms will get the game.

But there’s no reason to think it’ll be exclusive to one or the other. And hopefully that means the game will be available on the Nintendo Switch. Because this kind of game is perfect for it. Tales of the Shire is being developed by Weta Workshop and will be published by Private Division. The game’s description on its official landing page says it’ll be a “heartwarming” experience. So in addition to being cozy the story should be delightful.
