Samsung has quietly introduced the Galaxy A05 and A05s budget smartphones in Malaysia. Both the handsets have arrived as the successors to last year’s Galaxy A04 and A04s, respectively. The new Galaxy A series offerings bring a slightly refreshed design, bigger displays, and faster performance & charging capabilities.
The new Galaxy A series phones offer faster performance and charging
Samsung has equipped the new Galaxy A series models with much more powerful processors. The Galaxy A05 variant packs the MediaTek Helio G85 12nm octa-core SoC under the hood. The SoC is paired with the Mali-G52 GPU, up to 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of expandable storage.
As for the A05s, this one is equipped with a more powerful 6nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 chipset. In addition, the device has the Adreno 610 GPU to provide an immersive gaming experience. The RAM and storage capacity of the phone is the same as its lower-end counterpart.
Samsung has also improved the charging capabilities of the new Galaxy A series budget handsets. Both the Galaxy A05 and A05s models are packed with the same 5,000mAh battery as last year’s models. However, the charging capabilities have been increased to 25W as opposed to 15W on the Galaxy A4 series handsets.
The Galaxy A05 duo offers a slightly bigger display & refreshed design
The new Galaxy A series budget phones have arrived with a refreshed design. While they have rounded corners as their predecessors, the rear panels are now flat with a stripy design. The A05s model has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for security. Unfortunately, the A05 variant doesn’t offer the fingerprint security tech.
The new handsets are also equipped with slightly bigger 6.7-inch LCD displays. While the Galaxy A05s variant has full HD+ screen resolution, the A05 model settles with an HD screen panel only.
For imaging, the lates Galaxy A series offerings are equipped with 50MP main shooters and 2MP secondary snappers at the rear. Notably, the higher-end Galaxy A05s variant also gets an additional 2MP lens for macro photography at the back. For selfies, the A05 has an 8MP front-facing shooter, while the A05s get a better 13MP snapper.
The Galaxy A05s is promised to get four years of Android upgrades
The latest Galaxy A series handsets will boot Android 13 with One UI Core out-of-the-box. The company has promised that the A05s variant will be getting four years of Android updates. However, there’s no such promise for the lower-end A05 model at the moment. Lastly, both the new A05 variants are 4G connectivity-enabled offerings with dual-SIM slots, USB Type-C, and dual-band Wi-Fi.
Samsung hasn’t yet announced the pricing and availability of the Galaxy A05 duo. However, we do know that they will be initially available in select Asian markets. Both will be offered in three color variants – Black, Light Green, and Silver.
