The Hunger Games: Catching Fire director Francis Lawrence returns to the Capitol to helm The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, and has revealed how Rachel Zegler’s Lucy Gray Baird differs from the iconic Katniss Everdeen, playing throughout the franchise by Jennifer Lawrence.

“Katniss was an introvert and a survivor,” Lawrence explained. “She was quite quiet and stoic, you could almost say [she was] asexual. Lucy Gray is the opposite. She wears her sexuality on her sleeve, [and] she really is a performer.”

Not only is Lucy much more of an extrovert when compared to Katniss, she loves to play to the crowd. Something that Katniss absolutely despised. Which all suggests that the hero of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes will bring a very different presence to the dystopian world of the series. “She loves crowds. She knows how to play crowds and manipulate people,” Lawrence continued.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is scheduled to be released in the United States on November 17, 2023, by Lionsgate Films.
