Google has raised the prices of its Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus subscriptions. The base plan is seeing a $2 per month or $20 per year hike, while the price of the Plus plan has increased by $3 a month or $30 a year. The company doesn’t seem to have added new perks or improved existing ones.
Nest Aware subscriptions enhance the capabilities of Google’s Nest security cameras, doorbells, smart displays, and speakers. Most notably, you get a longer event video history for your security cameras. The base plan gives you 30 days of history, while the Plus plan extends that to 60 days. The latter option also offers up to ten days of 24/7 video history. Other benefits include intelligent alerts for Familiar faces, sound detection, emergency calls, smoke alarms, and more.
Google has charged $6 a month/$60 annually for the base Nest Aware subscription since May 2020. Nest Aware Plus, on the other hand, was priced at $12 a month or $120 a year. However, with the latest hike, the two plans cost $8 a month/$80 annually and $15 a month/$150 annually, respectively. As said earlier, this hike comes without added benefits. Google says it has raised the prices to “keep up with market shifts, which can include inflation and local tax updates.”
The updated pricing structure is now effective for new Nest Aware subscribers in the US. For existing subscribers, the new prices will reflect on their bills on or after November 6, 2023. An official support page states that Nest Aware subscriptions are seeing a price hike in Australia and the UK as well. Google has already notified users in those markets. Users in other countries will also receive some sort of notice from the company at least 30 days before any price increase.
No price hike for Nest Aware subscriptions received through Google’s partners
If you received a Nest Aware subscription through Google’s partners such as ADT, this price hike won’t apply to you. The subscription comes complementary with ADT’s complete home security solution. The DIY (do-it-yourself) setup costs $34.99 a month.
Meanwhile, Google is encouraging Nest Aware (1st gen) subscribers to upgrade. “Now is a good time to consider upgrading your existing 1st generation plan to the latest version of Nest Aware,” the company says. “By switching to the latest Nest Aware subscription you’ll now enjoy a simpler single flat rate that covers all your compatible Nest cameras, speakers, doorbells, and displays.” Note that Google stopped selling Nest Aware (1st gen) subscriptions in July 2023.
