Samsung addressed one of the biggest complaints with its foldable smartphone design this year. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 both fold flat without leaving a gap, making them less bulky when folded. It appears the 2024 Fold model would bring another notable design improvement. A leaked early prototype of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 shows a much wider cover display.
Shared by tipster Ice Universe on X/Twitter, the prototype foldable looks like a regular slab phone when folded. The tipster speculates that the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s cover display could have a similar aspect ratio as the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which itself is rumored to be switching from a curved display to a flat one. If true, that would mean a notably wider cover display than the one found on the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
For reference, the current Fold model’s cover display has an aspect ratio of 23.1:9. The Galaxy S24 Ultra’s flat display, on the other hand, is rumored to have a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. There may be some differences between the upcoming Galaxy S and Galaxy Z series phones, but Samsung is seemingly making the foldable wider. Fans have long been asking for this, as a taller screen isn’t the most comfortable to use.
Samsung still has time to work on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 design
Note that this isn’t the first time we have seen this foldable prototype. It was previously passed off as a Galaxy Z Fold 5 prototype with a bunch of others featuring varying display aspect ratios. The video surfaced just a day after Samsung launched the new foldable, suggesting that the company tested multiple designs for it.
Perhaps these are some of the design concepts the company has in mind for its Fold-series foldables. A few of them could come out as a final product, while others may never see the light of day. Time will tell if the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will look similar to the leaked prototype. The 2024 foldable is still almost a year away. That’s plenty of time for Samsung to ponder and decide on the final design.
The Korean firm likely has most of its focus on the Galaxy S24 series right now, with the new foldables taking a backseat. The Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra will reportedly undergo some design changes too. As said earlier, the Ultra model could be getting a flat display, while the entire lineup may sport flat frames. You can expect more rumors about these phones in the coming weeks.
