“Onyx started out as a quirky digital character that I hoped would find some sort of audience, even a tiny one. To see the growth in popularity over the last few years has been incredible, and now we’re preparing for a major theatrical event. It just shows that if you’re willing to put your art or yourself out there amazing things can happen,” said Bowser.
In the film, Onyx is a so-called loser whose still living at home with his mom, played by horror legend Barbara Crampton (You’re Next, Re-Animator), and working at this fast food resteraunt, where he also doesn’t get any respect. However, his fortunes seem to change when he enters into a giveaway and is subsequently invited to the mansion of his idol Bartok the Great (Jeffrey Combs, Re-Animator) to raise the spirit of the ancient demon Abbadon along with five other loyal followers. And no demon summoning ritual would be complete without a grimoire and talisman.
At the mansion, Bartok’s delegate Farrah (Olivia Taylor Dudley, The Magicians) assigns each of the invitees a mystic symbol. There’s Jasmine the Queen (Melanie Chandra, Code Black), Shelley the Viking (Arden Myrin, Insatiable), Mr. Duke the Lycan (Terence C. Carson, Final Destination 2), Mack the Witch (Rivkah Reyes, School of Rock), and Onyx himself. You can find out what he is in the trailer, which we at MovieWeb are proud to debut.
