Keeping your earbuds clean is an important habit to learn, and it’s easy to forget sometimes. However, Google is here to keep you on track. According to 9to5Google (via The Verge), Google will send you reminders to clean your Pixel Buds.

This is something that’s still rolling out, so there’s a chance that you won’t see it. Also, this is going to be a Pixel Bud-exclusive feature, as it’s handled through the Pixel Buds app. If you want to check to see if you got the update, go to the Pixel Buda app on the Google Play Store. If you see the Update button, then you should be updated to the latest version of the app.

Google will give you reminders to clean your Pixel Buds

This was spotted in version 1.0.555017123 of the Pixel Buds app. After the app registers 120 hours of in-ear use, you’ll see a reminder to clean your earbuds pop up. If you’re outside of the app, then you’ll see a notification saying “Time to clean your earbuds. Improves audio quality, charging, and access to updates.” There’s a slightly different notification that pops up when you’re in the Pixel Buds app. It will say “Clean your earbuds. Improves audio quality and charging.”

In case you’re wondering, Google is right that clean earbuds can help with audio quality, charging, and updates. If you have ear wax covering your earbuds, then you won’t be able to hear them as clearly. Also, if there’s ear wax covering the contacts that your earbuds need to charge, then charging and updates could also be affected.

While Google is pushing this for Pixel Buds, it’s still useful to do this for all of your earbuds. An alarming number of people actually throw out their earbuds thinking that they’re broken only to find that they are just gunked up with ear wax.
