What’s New on Disney+ Hotstar releasing in April 2021

Continuing its month-on-month addition of fresh new titles, Disney+ Hotstar is bringing yet one more neat mixture of titles in April 2021. As always, there’s an Oscar-nominated film within the mix; only this point along side the Oscars Awards ceremony itself. That’s right, the 93rd Academy Awards are going to be available to be streamed to users in India in late April. To round things up, Kate Winslet stars during a crime thriller, donning the role of a detective during a show that also involves the platform in April. 1. Big Shot (9 April)

Yet another worthy addition to their gamut of sports movies comes in the form of Big Shot,  which is also a Disney+ Original. It is the story of a hothead coach (Marvyn Kom), who often lands himself in a bit of a scoop. But this time around, he is handed the job of coaching a girls basketball team, who are not taking their game seriously, while a lot is at stake for Kom. Find out how he tackles his demons and fights to the top.

2. Queen of the South S05 (9 April)

Queen of the South is coming with its fifth and final season to join the shows and movies on Disney+ Hotstar releasing this month. In this season, we see Teresa finally embracing her Queenpin status and all that comes with it. While she has tried to maintain a strong moral code by leading with her heart, those values have begun to compromise her ability to stay on top. Teresa will now have to make tough decisions when it comes to those closest to her, all while continuing her quest for even greater power.

3. The New Mutants (10 April)

A classy addition from the Marvel comic series, The New Mutants has to be among the top shows and movies on Disney+ Hotstar on your watch list. In this terrifying, action-filled film, five young people who demonstrate special powers are forced to undergo treatment at a secret institution — allegedly to cure them of the dangers of their powers. But it’s soon clear that their containment is part of a much bigger battle between the forces of good and evil!

4. The Personal History of David Copperfield (11 April)

The 2019 release, The Personal History of David Copperfield, finally makes its way to OTT via Disney+ Hotstar. Dev Patel leads an ensemble cast of talented stage and screen actors from across the world in this lavish, tongue-in-cheek reimagining from Searchlight Pictures of Charles Dickens’ classic story. After suffering through his earlier life as an impoverished orphan, things take an intriguing turn for David Copperfield (Patel) when he meets up with his outrageous, well-to-do aunt Betsey Trotwood (Tilda Swinton). Following a new trajectory, Copperfield embraces danger, treachery, romance, and ultimately the chance to shine as a writer in Victorian England.

5. The Nevers (12 April)

The Nevers is set in the late 1800s. Victorian London is rocked to its foundations by a supernatural event that gives certain people — mostly women — abnormal abilities, from the wondrous to disturbing. But no matter their particular “turns,” all who belong to this new underclass are in grave danger. It falls upon a mysterious, quick-fisted widow Amalia True (Laura Donnelly) and brilliant young inventor Penance Adair (Ann Skelly) to protect and shelter these gifted “orphans.” To do so, they will have to face the brutal forces determined to annihilate their kind.

6. A Black Lady Sketch Show S02 (17 April)

A Black Lady Sketch Show is a narrative series set in a limitless magical reality full of dynamic, hilarious characters and celebrity guests. The show presents sketches performed by a core cast of black women, including Robin Thede, Ashley Nicole Black, Gabrielle Dennis and Quinta Brunson.

7. Mare of Easttown (19 April)

As her life crumbles around her, a small-town Pennsylvania detective Mare Sheehan (Kate Winslet) investigates a local murder. The series explores the dark side of a close community and provides an authentic examination of how family and past tragedies can define our present.

8. Nomadland (30 April)

The big one for this month’s releases, Nomadland could be the winner of several Oscar awards by the time it makes its way to the platform. Nominated in six categories, the film is touted to bag at least three Academy Awards. As for the synopsis, following the economic collapse of a town in rural Nevada, Fern sets off on the road exploring a life outside of conventional society as a modern-day nomad.

9. 93rd Academy Awards (25 April)

To wrap things up for shows and movies on Disney+ Hotstar in April, come the 93rd Academy Awards. Each January, the entertainment community and film fans around the world turn their attention to the Academy Awards. Interest and anticipation build to a fevered pitch leading up to the Oscar telecast when millions of movie lovers tune in to watch the glamorous ceremony and learn who will receive the highest honors in filmmaking. This year’s nomination announcement took place on Monday, March 15, 2021. The 93rd Oscars will air live on Disney+ Hotstar Premium on Sunday, April 25, 2021.
