Qualcomm has launched the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 SoC (System on a Chip). Qualcomm is calling it a third-generation chip even though it succeeded the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC. It’s obvious why, the company’s current-gen chips are third-gen chips.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 specifications & features
This new chip technically succeeds the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC launched two years ago. The chipset is manufactured on the 4nm fabrication process, offering some benefits in power efficiency.
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 is an octa-core chipset, just like its predecessor. However, it has slightly better CPU cores and improved AI performance. Specifically speaking, the chipset has four Cortex-A78 Performance cores clocked at 2.4GHz, which are accompanied by four Cortex-A55 Efficiency cores clocked at 1.8GHz.

Qualcomm has packed an Adreno 710 GPU inside the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3. This SoC supports both the older LPDDR4X and newer LPDDR5 RAM versions. This means smartphone manufacturers have the freedom to customize the chipset for a variety of budgets. Strangely, this 5G capable chipset supports only UFS 3.1 storage.
Smartphones aiming to use Qualcomm’s new processor can have Full HD+ resolution displays. Additionally, this SoC can support displays with up to 120Hz refresh rates. Other notable specifications include support for Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E.
Coming to the imaging department, the new chip can handle a 48MP single sensor for continuous reads. Alternatively, it can support 32MP and 16MP dual sensors. Manufacturers could also pack a single camera, claiming it has a 200MP sensor.
What does the new Qualcomm chipset offer for end-users?
Qualcomm hasn’t launched the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 at an event. It merely posted a brief overview of the chipset on its official website.
This chip is destined for budget and mid-range Android smartphones. However, the chipset maker has attempted to offer enhanced AI performance as well as improved camera capabilities for smartphones in this price range.

Smartphone enthusiasts may realize the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 is quite similar to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. The only noticeable difference is that the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2’s efficiency cores are clocked at 1.95GHz. Additionally, smartphones packing the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 can have a display with a higher refresh rate of 144Hz.
